Catholicscope - At the Feast of St. Peter and Paul, the six Sisters of the Congregation of the Nuns of Charity of Jesus and Mary the Mother of Good Help (KYM) pledge perpetual vows in a Eucharistic Celebration at St. Laurensius Brindisi Church, Pematangsiantar, North Sumatra.

The Mass was led by Archbishop Anicetus Bongsu Sinaga OFMCap, Bishop of Archdiocese of Medan. He was accompanied by a congregation moderate Pastor Octavianus Situngkir OFMCap with 32 priests.

Archbishop Anicetus explains, every nuns keeps purity in the monastic life. Prayer is the main way in trying to remain faithful in the bond of love with God.

Prayer is the main grip for the nuns in carrying on the call of Christ's spouse. You must be faithful to Jesus because Jesus has chosen you and is always faithful to you.

He continued, this is the way of self-sanctification. "What is promised in celibacy should be preserved and nurtured. You have been chosen for the ministry of the poor according to St. Vincent A Paulo's spirituality. "

The family as the origin of the sisters takes on an important role in the call. Archbishop Anicetus advises that the nuns do not forget to pray for parents and family. He also invites the family to be grateful for God's call for the six nuns.

"Thank you for you (the families) have given up these sisters to live the life of God's service."

The six nuns of KYM who profess their perpetual vows are Sr. Maria Naomi Sihombing KYM, Sr Maria Flora Purba KYM, Sr Maria Ancilla Ancient KYM, Sr Maria Wendeline Situmorang KYM, Sr. Emmanuella Purba KYM, and Sr Cornelia Puu Heu KYM.

In his speech, Sr. Cornelia, representing the nuns who make their vows, asks the whole community to keep praying for the vocation and work of the Sisters.

Making vows is the first step to fully plunge as a minister of Christ. These sisters want to serve Christ who is present in the care of the sick, the sinner, and the outcast.

With their prayers and the prayers of all the people, these sisters can be guided by the Holy Spirit to carry out their duties and responsibilities as best they can.

In Indonesia, the call to become priest and nun is still very high. Young people still see the call of priests or nuns as sacred and noble, so they are very interested to enter seminary or monastery.

We hope that more and more young people will be interested in becoming priests or nuns so that the Church's ministry in Indonesia and the world can proceed as expected.
