Catholicscope - St Catherine of Siena was born in Sienna City, Italy in 25 March 1347. Catherine was the youngest child. Her parents want their youngest daughter to marry and live happily.

But Catherine does not want to get married. She wants to be a nun. This determination she showed by cutting his hair and making himself unattractive.

Knowing what their daughter did, Catherine's parents were very angry. As punishment, Chaterine had to do heavy domestic work. She never gave up, she still wanted to be a nun. Prayer and meditation never left by Catherine. Eventually his parents allowed Catherine to become a nun.

Catherine entered the third Order of Saint Dominic. Inside the monastery he continued to pray and meditate in addition to her charity and apostolate work. The spiritual life and personality of Catherine made her the elected leader of the abbey.

At that time, the church experienced many problems. Priests and Church leaders do not present themselves well. The fights broke out throughout Italy. At that time, Pope was in Avignon, France.

Catherine gets a vision, Jesus asks her to write a letter to the Pope to return to Rome. She was also asked to write to the bishop, kings and commanders to improve the situation of the Church and the community.

Since entering the third Order of Saint Dominic, Catherine has been fasting ever since. She does not even eat and only receive communion.

She received the stigmata or the wounds of Jesus. Upon his request, the stigamata was invisible to others during his lifetime. After the death, the stigmata was only visible on his body.

Catherine gave all her life to God. She considers herself a tool of God. She gets great charisma to influence many people. She succeeded in making the Pope return to Rome, bringing many sinners back to the Lord's path, and reconciling kings with the Church.

St Catherine of Siena died on April 29, 1380 in Rome at the age of 33 years. It was canonized in 1461 by Pope Pius II.

In 1970, Pope Paul VI appointed her as a Doctor of The Church. Because Catherine served the Church of Christ with courage throughout her lifetime. St Catherine of Siena's feast day is April 29.

She is the patroness against fire, illness, the United States, Italy, miscarriages, people ridiculed for their faith, sexual temptation, and nurses.
